Rules & Regulations
GENERAL INFORMATION
All activities are organised and supervised by the organising committee of the Ballet Grand Prix Vienna. Apart from the competition, the Ballet Grand Prix Vienna offers masterclasses and workshops led by highly renowned professionals.
The Ballet Grand Prix Vienna 2024 will take place from July 15th until 21st, in Vienna, Austria!
The competition is open to professional dancers, dance students, as well as independent dancers of all nationalities, between the age of 8 and 27 years, at competition time!
Participants can take part in the competition either by representing themselves, who will take part without school affiliation or as an individual dancer belonging to a school.
Participants may enter as a Solo, in a Duo/Trio/Ensemble, or in a Pas de Deux .
Solo participants have the choice of performing in one or both of the following categories:
Classical Ballet: The variation may be chosen from the list of classical repertoires
Contemporary Dance: This field includes any open solo variation that features a different aspect of the participant’s skill and versatility as a dancer
Duo, Trio, Ensemble: Classical or Contemporary Dance

Registration goes through the online registration portal.
Registration closes June 15th 2024.

The master classes will take place in the premises of the MUK (Musik und Kunstuniversität Vienna). Address: Bräunerstraße 5, 1010 Wien
The competition will take place at MuTh Vienna. Address: Am Augartenspitz 1, 1020 Wien
JURY
The jury of the Ballet Grand Prix Vienna consists of international experts, including directors from renowned ballet schools, choreographers, dancers and artistic directors. Please find the list of the competition jury members here.
WORKSHOPS & MASTERCLASSES
Participation in the workshops and masterclasses is optional for all competition participants and is charged additionally. Workshops & Masterclasses are also open for non-competitors.
PERFORMING ON POINTE
Participants under the age of 10 are not advised to dance on pointe. Teachers are liable for their students in this case.
LEVEL CLASSIFICATION FOR CLASSICAL BALLET CATEGORY
Group A (Covers Children, Junior, Senior Division)
This group refers to students who train 5 hours or less per week.
Group B (Covers all Age Divisions)
This group refers to students who train more than 5 hours per week.
Classification can also be decided after self-assessment or by the teacher.
AGE DIVISIONS
Children Division:
I: 8-9 years old
II: 10-11 years old
Junior Division: 12-14 years old
Senior Division: 15-19 years old
Professional Dancers Division: 17-27 years old
As defined by Ballet Grand Prix Vienna, a professional dancer is anyone who has been employed with a professional dance company or has completed professional dance training.
Pas de Deux: only for Professional Dancers: 17-27 years old
Duos, Trios and Ensembles (from 4 people): 8-27 years old
ENTRY ROUNDS / FINALE – Solo Variation A-B
Classical Ballet Group A: Solo Variationen
All solo participants from Group A have first round only: one classical variation (may be from the classical repertoire list).
Classical Ballet Group B: Solo Variationen
Children Division (8-11 years old): One Entry
First Round only: One classical variation (the variations can, but don’t have to be chosen from the list of classical repertoires)
Junior Division (12-14 years): Two Entries
First Round: One classical variation
Second Round: One classical variation – repeat from first round or a new classical variation
(The variations can, but don’t have to be chosen from the list of classical repertoires)
Senior Division (15-19 years): Three Entries
First Round: One classical variation (from the classical repertoire list)
Second Round: One classical variation (repeat from first round or free choice from the classical repertoire list) AND one neo-classical variation or contemporary variation
Professional Dancers Division (17-27 years): Three Entries
First Round: One classical variation (from the classical repertoire list)
Second Round: New classical variation AND one neo-classical variation or contemporary variation
Pas de Deux (17-27 years): Two Entries
First Round: One Pas de Deux from the classical repertoire list
Second Round: New Pas de Deux – free choice
CONTEMPORARY DANCE – Solo Variation
Contemporary Dance: One Entry
All participants from the Contemporary Dance category have only one round: one contemporary solo variation.
DUO, TRIO, ENSEMBLE
Duo, Trio, Ensemble (from 4 people) – 8-27 years old: One Entry
Participants can enter in one or both of the following categories: Classical or Contemporary
MUSIC SUBMISSION
Music submission of participants’ entries by 15th of June 2024 to music@bgpv.org
Music files must include: Full Name, Category, Variation, Length of Music
Please note that only M4a and MP3 formats will be accepted.
In addition to above, it is suggested to bring the own copy of the performance music to the event.
Every music file must be provided in good quality.
All USB sticks / devices must be collected by the participants. They will not be returned by post!
TIME LIMITS
Classical Variation: Times are depending on variation.
Pas de Deux: Original repertoire length, second round: max. 5 minutes with new choreography
Duo, Trios and Ensembles: Max. 4 minutes
Contemporary Solo: Max. 4 minutes (+- according to musical necessity)
COPYRIGHT
All participants or their teachers are responsible for the copyright with chosen music and choreography. This specifically applies for the contemporary category and all variations not stated on the repertoire list.
PARTICIPATION FEE
To enter the competition, all fees are stated below. The fee must be paid upon the online registration and is non-refundable.
Classical Group A: 120 EUR
Classical Group B: 120 EUR
Contemporary: 120 EUR
Pas de Deux: 120 EUR / Person
Duo/Trios: 120 EUR / Person
Ensembles (from 4+ Persons): 75 EUR / Person
Workshop: 35 EUR / Person / Session (competitors)
Workshop: 50 EUR / Person / Session (non-competitors)
Masterclasses: 70 EUR / Person / Session
